Its just stuff

Had a conversation with a friend the other day about my ill feelings over being a prisoner of my belongings and a slave to technology. I even mentioned needing a "cleanse."
...ask and you shall receive...
Went out for a surf at Kewalos before hitting the studio. Had about $4500 worth of computer/camera, equipment  and other personal items stolen. Common response: why was all that stuff in your car? answer: I hold far to much trust in strangers. i deserved to be proven otherwise
I habitually chant "it's just stuff" hoping it will stick.  Mentally I'm flailing somewhere between violation and liberation. Free from the constant anxiety of keeping safe so many valuable tools. Feeling sick for the "valueless" items that probably lay in the bottom of a grimy bin liner, awaiting deployment to Waimanalo's vast rubbish abyss. A traveling pen pal sketchbook stewing in an amalgamation of drippings. My external HD (with at least 6 months of non double backed data) marinating in the fermenting remains of plate lunch mystery meat. My 1916 model Kodak autographic No. 3a abandoned in sea of plastic waste, crawling with decomposers trying to penetrate its foreign exoskeleton of leather and metal. Almost a 100 years old but brand new to me. Spent hours tinkering,  getting to know its simple complexities, converting it to be applicable to my work in the present era. gone

Then another kick to the gonads. insurance wont cover the replacement. perfect.
Total loss or clean slate. it is my choice to decipher. After all, it's just stuff right?
